Lucy Daniels School is a therapeutic day school for children who are experiencing social, emotional, or behavioral difficulties at home or in school.
At the Lucy Daniels School, each child’s education and therapeutic program are carefully tailored to his or her needs and strengths. Social, emotional, and academic growth takes place in classrooms where our students feel safe, understood, and supported in all developmental areas.

Our Unique Approach
We provide an alternative choice in our therapeutic school for children who struggle emotionally and academically in a mainstream school environment.
Lucy Daniels School teachers develop individual learning plans for each child, providing strategies to work around the behavioral and mental health-related blocks that get in the way of academic success. At the same time, children also work individually with therapists on-site. The end goal is to prepare all students to thrive in regular mainstream classrooms, and to develop solid academic and social skills to help them learn and grow throughout their lives.
Our classrooms are bright and airy with an abundance of natural light. We have a well equipped outdoor learning environment that includes a playground, nature trails, and a therapeutic teaching garden with a greenhouse for year-round activities. The average teacher/student ratio at Lucy Daniels School is 1:5, but is typically lower in Early School. Our school hours are 8:30am-2:45pm and after school care is available for grades 1-5.
Teachers and therapists meet regularly to inform one another of the progress and challenges in the classroom and with therapeutic work. Parents meet regularly with a parent guidance counselor to work on understanding and reducing challenging behaviors at home or in other settings. This collaborative approach creates an environment where children progress socially and academically, improve and change their behaviors, and develop resilience so that they can become successful and competent learners.
Who Are Our Students?
Lucy Daniels School provides an alternative choice for children who cannot manage or perform well in a mainstream school. We serve children with average or higher intellectual capacities who may have:
- difficulty separating;
- trouble making or keeping friends;
- struggles with concentrating or completing assignments;
- tendencies to be socially isolated;
- anxieties and worries, including refusal or reluctance to try new activities;
- repetitive behaviors;
- difficulty with self-control;
- excessive stubbornness, defiance, or resistance to following rules or routines.
All of our students’ parents participate in regular parent counseling throughout their child’s time at Lucy Daniels School.
