Volunteer Opportunities

The Lucy Daniels Center is a dynamic community of children, parents, teachers, clinical professionals, community supporters, and many other friends. Our busy programs and ever-expanding community outreach efforts mean that there’s always something that needs to be done! We’re so appreciative of the donations of time and talent made by our many Center volunteers. In everything from spreading mulch to setting up our new library and delivering Lucy’s Book Club bookmarks to our partners, volunteers have contributed so much to our success. Thank you!

In the coming year we will continue reaching out to our friends and supporters for help. From grounds, building and equipment upkeep to Spring 2012’s Bookmarked! festival, there will be many, many ways that individuals, groups, and corporate teams can lend a hand. Below are a few of our ongoing needs:

  • Bookmarked! 2012: This fall we’ll begin planning for our annual spring festival, celebrating the many delights of reading with children, and we’ll need committed volunteers to serve on planning committees (Readings and Readers, Family Fun Concert, Print and PR, Sponsorship and more!) and help out at the events. This community-wide event is a major fundraiser for the Center and Lucy's Book Club and a great opportunity for individuals or groups looking to make a significant impact through their volunteer efforts.
  • Lucy's Book Club bookmark deliveries: As we work on expanding Lucy’s Book Club into neighboring counties, we will need additional teams to take bookmarks to our partners once every three months. This is an easy way for teams from local businesses to meet their goals for community service.
  • Building and grounds upkeep: From spreading mulch and playground sand to tidying flower beds and sprucing up interior paint, maintaining the school’s classrooms and grounds is one of those jobs where many hands make light work. Teams of volunteers can devote anywhere from a half-day to an entire weekend of time to help us mark these projects off our list.
  • Toy and furniture refurbishment: Volunteers who are good with their hands might like this opportunity! Take home a tricycle, set of wooden chairs, or box of toys and provide much-needed cleaning, simple repairs, painting, or other servicing to help keep our students happy and safe.
  • Table Talkers: We are fortunate that the Center is invited to numerous volunteer fairs and other community events where we can spread the word about our critical work supporting the emotional health of the Triangle’s children. We need a handful of volunteers who are familiar with the Center’s programs and who have fairly flexible schedules to be "on call" when we receive these invitations so we don’t have to turn them down. (You can learn everything you need to know at one of our monthly Lunch and Learn programs.)
