Expressions. A Celebration of Food and Art.

Bringing together two highly personal expressions of creativity--fine cuisine and fine art--this one-of-a-kind benefit for the Lucy Daniels Center draws guests into the intriguing imaginative processes of each.

Join us for an evening of art and food featuring  internationally acclaimed artist and sculptor Thomas Sayre and renowned chefs of the Southeast, brought together by The Umstead Hotel and Spa’s executive chef Scott Crawford.

This event will take place Friday, September 23, at 6:30 p.m. at The Umstead, in conjunction with an exhibition of Sayre’s work in the Umstead gallery during August and September.

Thomas Sayre, a founding principal of Clearscapes multi-disciplinary design firm, has created public art projects all over the world. His love for and respect of natural materials—and his emphasis on collaboration—provide the inspiration for the elegant reception and multi-course meal guests will enjoy at The Umstead.

The evening’s exclusive menu will be prepared by Chef Crawford and celebrated guest chefs from the Southeast, including Steven D. Greene of Herons, The Umstead's signature restaurant; Colin Bedford of the The Fearrington House Restaurant in Pittsboro, NC; Matthew Medure of Matthew’s San Marco and Restaurant Medure in Jacksonville, FL; and Daniel Benjamin of The Umstead Hotel and Spa and Herons. Reflecting the evening’s emphasis on earth and organic concepts, courses will be paired with biodynamic wines. 

Throughout the evening, Scott and Thomas will be on hand to comment about their inspiration for their creations, as well as their unique partnership exclusively for this event in support of the Lucy Daniels Center.
