Child Enrichment Program (CEP)

Since 1993, our Child Enrichment Program (CEP) has supported young children in developing self-confidence, independence, and healthy social skills. Our model preschool program is now tailored to the needs of children and their families who may benefit from “a little extra help.”

The enhanced CEP will benefit children ages 2 – 5 who

  • seem overly shy or sensitive;
  • resist separating;
  • encounter difficulty making friends;
  • find transitions and routines challenging;
  • or struggle with independence.

Our CEP offers the school environment children need to grow beyond these challenges, through enhanced program offerings and support.

If you’re looking for a half-day program that provides parent support and education in addition to a developmentally rounded preschool and transitional kindergarten curriculum, designed for children who need “a little extra help,” consider what our Child Enrichment Program has to offer your child and your family.

For your child:

  • Expert guidance by skilled teachers

Licensed as a five-star program by the state of North Carolina and accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), the CEP’s approach is uncompromising in its commitment to provide an environment, relationships, and curriculum that build competencies which prepare children for success in academics and relationships.

In keeping with our mission to help children live emotionally healthy lives, the following beliefs and commitments form the foundation of our Child Enrichment Program:

  • We help children feel that their school environment is emotionally safe, supportive, and nurturing.
  • We encourage children to learn within the framework of their interests. Accomplishing this requires that teachers have substantial time outside of class time to develop curriculum and materials that support the interests of the class and individual children.
  • We support parents in becoming a part of their child’s school experience, feeling at home with teachers and in their child’s classroom, and obtaining the information necessary to achieve these goals.
  • We believe that teachers must learn about each child’s unique capacities and emotional life to best help each child grow and learn to their fullest capacity. Understanding a child at this nuanced level requires teachers’ dedication and a close collaboration between teachers and parents.
  • We choose teachers who are highly trained professionals. Our teachers have earned a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree.

Testimonial from CEP parents:

"The most important thing for us was the phase-in program, which allows you to slowly transition your child in at the beginning of the year by staying increasingly shorter periods until the child is comfortable staying on their own. For kids like mine who are incredibly attached and have a difficult time with separation, this is a wonderful thing in making them feel safe and secure. You can tell they really care about the kids."

"My daughter as a preschooler was hesitant and unsure of herself and yet deeply sensitive, both to her own feelings and those of others. She blossomed in the compassionate and emotionally supportive environment offered at the Center. Her teachers nurtured her growing understanding of others’ emotional cues, helping her make sense of interactions with her classmates and feel more confident in her responses to conflict, so that she emerged, as a five-year old, prepared to face the social dynamics of a kindergarten classroom—and the world beyond. I am amazed by her growth."
