Our friends and supporters are lacing up their shoes again as The Volunteer Center of Durham puts on their 2012 Great Human Race in support of local nonprofits.

This year's 5k run and community walk takes place on Saturday, March 24, rain or shine, with a fun new (and somewhat hilly!) route from Northgate Mall through the historic Watts Hospital-Hillandale neighborhood in Durham. Runners who have not already registered may sign up on race-day starting at 7 a.m., and the race begins at 8:30.

In 2011, the team raised $12,000 through this event, thanks to generous pledges made by our supporters.  Our goal in 2012--in what we're calling our "20th Birthday Run"--is to raise $15,000. Proceeds go to the Center's Family Support Fund, which helps close the gap between what families can afford to pay for their child's mental health services and their actual cost.

Learn more about how you can help support the Center through pledges to "Team Lucy" and individual members at www.active.com/donate/ghr2012/ldc2012. (Use the "Make a Contribution" feature in the orange box at bottom to donate to the team; to select an individual member, use the "View Team Fundraising Pages" drop-down tab at top.)
