Cary, NC – The Lucy Daniels Center announced this week that Linda and Orage Quarles III will serve as the Honorary Chairs of Expressions. A Celebration of Food and Art. This one-of-a-kind benefit for the Lucy Daniels Center brings together two highly personal expressions of creativity--fine cuisine and fine art. Drawing guests into the intriguing imaginative processes of both, internationally acclaimed potter Mark Hewitt and renowned chefs of the Southeast, brought together by The Umstead Hotel and Spa’s executive chef Scott Crawford, will present Expressions on Friday, November 9, at 6:30 p.m. at The Umstead. “The Quarles are pillars of the Triangle community, and we are honored and humbled that they have agreed to serve together in this important event role,” states Chris Marin, incoming Lucy Daniels Center Board Chair.
In addition to being President and Publisher of The News & Observer, Orage Quarles III serves on the Boards of Directors for the UNC School of Journalism and Mass Communication Foundation, the N.C. Justice Center, the John Rex Foundation and Rex Hospital. For the past two years, he has chaired the YMCA’s “We Build People” campaign. His career in publishing has been marked with notable leadership roles across the nation.
Linda Quarles leads career development and community engagement efforts at Millbrook High School. In addition to serving on the Advisory Board of the Lucy Daniels Center, she also serves on the Peace College Board of Trustees, is a member of the Women’s Network of the North Carolina Community Foundation, and past president of the Board of Directors of the YWCA of the Greater Triangle.
The Umstead Hotel and Spa is North Carolina’s first full-service hotel to receive the coveted AAA Five Diamond Award and is a Forbes Five Star rated property, was named to the Travel + Leisure T+L 500 list in 2011 and is a member of Leading Hotels of the World. Its restaurant, Herons, has been awarded a AAA Five Diamond Award and the Raleigh News & Observer’s Restaurant of the Year honor, as well as earning recognition in publications including Condé Nast Traveler, Travel + Leisure, Southern Living and Food & Wine.
Tickets to this event are $250 per person (a portion of which is a tax-deductible gift to the Center), and sponsorships range from $30,000 to $3,000.

The Lucy Daniels Center, founded in 1991, is devoted to promoting the healthy emotional development of young children. It is the largest and most comprehensive non-profit agency providing children’s mental health services in North Carolina’s Triangle region. The Center serves children up to age 11 who have behavioral or social difficulties or show signs of emotional problems through mental health assessments, family counseling, and therapy in both one-on-one and classroom settings.
