Cary, NC— Family law attorneys are often faced with families in crisis. And many of these families have children that are adversely affected. That is why Marc Sokol and his partners at Wake Family Law Group wanted to do more. A longtime supporter and former board member of Lucy Daniels Center, Sokol is the event chair of the inaugural Heart Balm Ball which will raise money to benefit children’s emotional health programs at the Center. Befittingly held on Valentine’s Day at 1705 Prime, the inaugural event has sold out; receiving impressive support from the legal community and affiliated businesses. “Our firm has been searching for a worthy organization to help for quite some time. We are very pleased that the Lucy Daniels Center accepted our offer to host this event and that some of our colleagues have helped sponsor the Ball. The “heart balm” title and the choice of Valentine’s Day for the event are intended as a kind of inside joke for our family law colleagues as we all recognize the irony of having divorce lawyers celebrating that one day specifically reserved for romantic love. We can’t think of a nonprofit organization here in Wake County that does more for the emotional health of children of divorce as well as for children in intact families than the Lucy Daniels Center,” Sokol states.
The Lucy Daniels Center, founded in 1989, has grown to be the largest and most comprehensive nonprofit agency providing children’s mental and emotional health services in the region. Nearly 700 children and families are served through one of the Center’s direct service programs and another 5,000 are impacted through one of its outreach programs. Monies raised will provide critical support for the Center’s Family Support Fund, which helps bridge the gap between what families can afford to pay and the actual cost of services. Approximately 90% of all families pay less than the cost to provide services and the Center consistently maintains a waitlist of four to six months.
“I am so grateful to Wake Family Law Group and the community of family law attorneys. We have had the great pleasure to work collaboratively over the years with so many family law attorneys. They do difficult work, but we are fortunate to have a community in which there are dedicated and compassionate attorneys devoting their full time practice to this very complicated aspect of the law. Our families and children are unusually well served by this group. Yet, family difficulties inevitably impact children, sometimes to the extent where they need professional help, and we are also grateful that we are here to help so many of these families at the Lucy Daniels Center,” states Dr. Don Rosenblitt, executive and clinical director of the Lucy Daniels Center.
Other major sponsors include Alexandra Glinkowski Re/Max United and leading law firms Gailor Hunt, Tharrington Smith, and Smith Debnam. The event will include a silent and live auction, live entertainment by the Central Park Band, and top notch cuisine by Rocky Top Hospitality.
