Cary, N.C.— The Lucy Daniels Center today announced that Expressions 2014 featuring the culinary talents of renowned chefs Steven Devereaux Greene, Vivian Howard, Kelly Fields, Kim Floresca and Evan Sheridan with the artistry of Paperhand Puppet Intervention, is sold out. This is the third year in a row that the event has sold all tickets prior to the event.
Expressions will be held November 14 at The Umstead Hotel and Spa in Cary, NC. Proceeds will benefit children’s mental health programming at Lucy Daniels Center.
“This year’s Expressions promises to be one of our most unforgettable evenings yet,” said Clarenda Stanley-Anderson, Director of Development and Communications. “This year’s attendees will be treated to a meal from five world-class chefs inspired by one of the Triangle’s most unique artists.”
Leading the team of chefs are Steven Devereaux Greene and Vivian Howard. Greene is executive chef of The Umstead Hotel and Spa, a Cary, North Carolina hotel lauded for its progressive American regional cuisine. He is one of the country’s youngest executive chefs to helm the kitchen of a Forbes Five Star or AAA Five Diamond establishment. Named a “Rising Star” by Restaurant Hospitality in 2008, Greene has twice cooked at the prestigious James Beard House in New York, representing Herons in 2011 and Devereaux’s in 2007.
Vivian Howard is the owner and chef at Chef & the Farmer in Kinston, N.C. After working at restaurants in New York, she returned to North Carolina to open her own restaurant. Howard and Chef and the Farmer will be featured in “A Chef’s Life,” a PBS television series which launches its second season in September.
Also joining the team of chefs are Kelly Fields, pastry chef at John Besh’s August in New Orleans, Kim Floresca, chef of [ONE] Restaurant in Chapel Hill, and Evan Sheridan, pastry chef of The Umstead Hotel and Spa and Herons.
Paperhand Puppet Intervention is based in Saxapahaw and creates sumptuous spectacles and performances using giant puppets, masks, painted flats, rod and shadow puppets all set to live music. Founded by Donovan Zimmerman and Jan Burger, Paperhand performs pageants, leads parades through the streets, teaches puppet making workshops, and performs a multitude of venues across the Triangle and beyond.
