Event by Lucy’s Book Club to promote reading to children and celebrate wonders of childhood
Cary, NC— Lucy’s Book Club, a program of Lucy Daniels Center, is proud to announce the roster of local “celebrity-hero” readers and performers who will entertain children and families at Bookmarked! 2013. This one-day celebration of books, music, and the wonders of childhood is scheduled for Saturday, May 4, 2013, from 9 a.m. – 12 noon at The Commons at North Hills in Raleigh. Jake Fehling and Joey Powell of Two Dads, One Mic will serve as emcees.
This year’s celebrity-hero readers and performers include:
- Page Crawford, WNCN Anchor
- Jennifer Ormiston, Durham Police Officer
- David DiGiuseppe, Accordionist and Storyteller
- Tina Seldon Cash, Vocalist and Children’s Entertainer
- Jennifer Garst, MD
- Pam Hartley, Vice President of Play Experience at Marbles Kids Museum
- Ira David Wood III, Executive Director of Theatre in the Park
“We are excited that these talented individuals are joining us to help share the importance of reading quality books with young children,” said Ginny Allen, chair of the Bookmarked! 2013 planning committee. “Bookmarked! 2013 promises to be an event that the entire family will enjoy.”
The celebrity-hero readers will share selections from Lucy’s Book Club (LBC), a free educational outreach program from Lucy Daniels Center that supports healthy child social and emotional development and early reading skills. In addition to the book readings, Bookmarked! 2013 will include family-friendly musical entertainment, games, and arts activities. This event is free and open to the public.
Lucy Daniels Center is the Triangle, NC, area’s largest and most comprehensive nonprofit provider of mental health services exclusively for children. Proceeds from Bookmarked! 2013 will support LBC in 2013–14 and raise funds for the Center’s education and child mental health programs. Bookmarked! sponsorships in amounts ranging from $7,500 to $500 are available now and offer corporations and businesses a high level of visibility with local families.
