First Friends

First Friends is a social skills program for children ages three to six who are struggling socially in their current school or group setting.

We offer First Friends in two formats, summer camp and our regular afternoon program. Here are applications to complete and submit:

Summer Camp 2017

Lucy Daniels Center will hold its second annual First Friends Summer Camp from July 10 to July 21, 2017, at our campus located at 9003 Weston Parkway in Cary.

The camp features our school’s therapeutic teaching garden, greenhouse and playground. Campers will spend time both indoors and outdoors, participating in activities designed to bring the group together to communicate, collaborate and explore nature, creative expression and relationships with one another.

Cost for the two weeks is $700. There is an Early Bird discount of 10% if you enroll by June 1, 2017.

First Friends Afternoon Program

The afternoon program, led by two therapeutic teachers, meets twice per week over a period of eight weeks. In each session, children have opportunities to participate in a range of social experiences, from play to group activities, with a focus on the social and emotional skills necessary for joining and being a member of a group. The program includes a parent orientation session prior to the start of the social skills group and parent participation in some of the sessions, depending on the social and emotional needs of the child. Parents may also request an optional school observation of their child in their current school or group setting.

The First Friends group meets on Mondays and Thursdays from 2:00 – 3:30; the fee is $250 for 8 weeks. Dates for the next program are April 24-June 19.
